Veronique Ouaknine

Artist member since 2022
Toronto, Ontario

Veronique has lived on 4 continents. She has studied Art History at Le Louvre in Paris, painting and drawing at Fei Fan Hua Shi in Beijing and later became a student of Costa Vavagiakis and Larry Poons at the Arts Students League of New York. She is currently a member of the Art Students League of New York and the Al Green Sculpture Studio in Toronto. Her work has shown in New York, Florida, Toronto as well as Seoul. Her art which is mostly abstract embraces deep humanistic values and reflects her emotions and concerns with every aspect of the human condition.

β€œI work mostly in abstract because I feel it helps me get to the essential, the fundamental, the universal. It helps me express more with less. I believe Nature and Nurture determine everything I do ; yet the result is always surprising and a singular expression of where the world is at in a precise moment in time. In every artwork I do, I like to share with the viewer the process, the journey that took me there. With painting , it will be many layers. They are like sediments I apply on the canvas. Like memories that shape who we are and how we think. Some will stay vivid and fresh, some will show remotely or partially and others will be replaced by new ones. Layer by layer I give the painting an identity ; a history and something to reveal. If my work resonates inside of you, it will take you through a new and unique visual, emotional and intellectual encounter, a place where you can find your own path and your own intimate experience, a place where unfamiliar shapes, colors and textures unfold, collide, meet and melt likes emotions, ideas and concepts in our brains.”
